How to get more enquiries from the visitors you already have

Before paying for more traffic, make the visitors you already have more likely to get in touch. Most of it is removing effort.

More visitors cost money. Getting more of your current visitors to contact you usually costs almost nothing, and it makes every future visitor worth more too. It is almost always the better place to start.

Most of what stops people getting in touch is effort and doubt. They cannot see how to contact you, the form asks too much, or they are not sure you are worth the trouble. Each of those has a plain fix.

Make contacting you obvious on every page

Visitors rarely arrive on your home page and almost never on your contact page. They land on a service page or a blog post from a search. Wherever they land, a way to reach you should be visible without scrolling: a call button on a phone, a WhatsApp button, and a clear link to the form.

Ask for less in the form

Every field is a reason to stop. Name, a way to reply, and one box for what they need is enough to start a conversation. You can ask the rest when you reply. If you genuinely need one more thing, such as a date or a budget, offer it as a choice rather than a blank box.

  • Remove any field you do not use in your first reply.
  • Let people choose how they want to be replied to: email, call or WhatsApp.
  • Say what happens next, and how soon, right beside the send button.

Answer the question that stops them

For most small businesses that question is price. A visitor who has no idea what you cost will assume you are expensive and leave quietly. You do not have to publish a full price list, but a starting price or a typical range filters out the wrong enquiries and reassures the right ones.

A visitor who cannot find a price assumes the worst one.

Show that real people are behind it

A name, a face, the street you work from and a real phone number do more for trust than any badge. If you have honest reviews, put one or two near the form, with the person’s name. If you do not have any yet, leave the space empty rather than inventing them.

Reply fast

The site’s job ends when someone gets in touch. Yours starts. Someone who enquires often contacts two or three businesses on the same evening, and the first sensible reply usually wins. Make sure form submissions reach a phone you actually check, and reply the same day, even if only to say when you will have a proper answer.

Check it as a stranger would

  1. Open your site on your phone, on mobile data, on an inner page.
  2. Time how long it takes to find a way to contact you.
  3. Send yourself an enquiry through the form and see where it arrives, and how long it takes.
  4. Tap the phone number and the WhatsApp button and check they open the right thing.

This site is set up the way this post describes: a call link and a WhatsApp button on every page, and a short form that says what happens next. Try them on your phone and judge for yourself.
